~12 years actively involved in horses.

~12 years showing.

~7 years involved in rescue cases and has much success in that. Has rescued and successful training and re-homed 25 and still continuing to do so!!

~8 years managing, training, and giving lessons.

Mattie has been actively involved in the horse world for 12 years from showing to rescuing and re-habing mulitple horses. She has shown through-out Virginia doing jumpers, equitation and hunter shows and Western events as well. Now she is becoming more active in the Event world and training. Mattie enjoys training and coaching for shows as well and has a passion for it. All horses that Mattie has worked with or showed usually place with the the top 3!!!

Mattie is extremely passionate and deeply involved in rescuing and working with abuse/neglect cases and has been very succesful. She has an un-limited amount of patience and understanding as well as the knowledge to physically and mentally bring along each horse. Some horses Mattie has worked with and have great promising futures include-

Sahara, which was rescued as a 3 year old (she is now 7), severe neglect case and extremely shy and skiddish. After good nutrition, and 45 days this horse was in great shape and had a complete turn-around in attitude, Mattie started her and was able to get on her the second day without any problems which was amazing considering how nervous this mare usually was. After 60 days Mattie was showing her, using her for lessons (she was 4 now) and Sahara was extremely happy. Sahara was sold to a wonderful teenager who uses her as a trail horse, her lesson horse and does alot of showing with her and does extremely well!

Diamond, was a neglectful situation, she was rescued in 05. Very thin, dominant aggressive mare. She was extremely pushy, and even worse under-saddle. Once the weight was put on Mattie set her sights on working with her. Diamond started her ground work un-happily, but after 15 days Diamond was leading with the utmost respect, and was happy to be around people and under-saddle she was learning to be responsive and not be so stubborn. After 90 days she walk-trot-cantered with no problems and enjoyed working. This horse used to run from you in the field and now she came on a run to greet you! She found a perm. home with a very nice family who uses her for their 5-7 year old children to learn to ride on!

Last but not least Elvis (2 yrs old at the time) was rescued from a VERY neglectful abusive situation. He was tied to a tree for most of his life and hit with a 2 x 4 which fractured his nose. Mattie stumbled upon him just by chance and took him home the next day. Elvis was immediately gelded, and turned out to learn how to be a horse again. Elvis is now 5 and was started last January, he was a breeze for Mattie to work with and is bomb-proof, healthy, and extremely talented. He attended his first event show in November 08 and won 2nd place out of 4!!

Mattie has many years experience in Managing. She used to work with and run a 34 horse barn. She is extremely knowledgable in horse nutrition, and all around horse care on the ground. She also has mulitple years experience in training and giving lessons. Mattie has started numerous horses english and western who have went on to be lesson horses, trail-horses, and succesful show mounts for juniors and adults. She produces confident, calm, talented, willing horses/ponies inside the ring as well as outside. Previously she worked with QH's for lesson programs and preparing them to sell, she also has worked with ponies on becoming calm show mounts for children as well as leadline ponies for "pony parties" Mattie also enjoys working with foals and younger horses to build a solid foundation and working with OTTB's that need re-hab or lay-up time. Mattie also enjoys giving beginner-advanced lessons and loves going to shows with the kids. Lessons are available from young to old, beginner to advanced, she loves to encourage the horse enthusiasm! Mattie is over all qualified for any job that presents itself with the horses and is very succesful!
